Sultan orders Muslims to observe Friday’s Rajab new moon

Beginning on Friday, January 12, Muslims who are devout should keep an eye out for the new Moon of Rajab 1445 AH, according to Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, or NSCIA.

On Thursday, January 11, Prof. Sambo Janaidu, the Chairman of the Sultanate Council Sokoto’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, made the announcement in a statement.

The statement says, “This is to notify the Muslim Ummah that the new moon of Rajab 1445 AH will be found on Friday, January 12, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Jumada-Assani 1445 AH.

It stated, “Muslims are requested to start the search on Friday and report its sighting to the nearest Village Head or District Head so that the Sultan is notified.”

The Sultan prayed, pleading with Allah to help all Muslims perform their religious obligations.

The seventh month of the Islamic calendar, Rajab, is regarded as one of the four holy months in Islam when fighting is forbidden.
