In Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi, a police patrol team was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in the volatile Ngbo-Effium axis.

According to reports, a police officer was killed and another was injured in the incident that happened on Thursday.

Joshua Ukandu, the state’s police public relations officer, verified this in a statement on Friday in Abakaliki.

“Armed hoodlums using an ash-colored Toyota Sienna with an unknown registration number attacked Operatives of the Command on patrol along Ngbo-Effium Road,” he said.

According to a police spokesman, the cops got into a gunfight with the thugs.

Ukandu reported that the injured police officer is presently undergoing care at the hospital.

Tactical teams from the Ebonyi State Police Command were sent to the scene right away by CP Augustina Ogbodo, Commissioner of Police.

“The group is pursuing the thugs.” Meanwhile, the area has returned to normalcy and calm,” he continued.
