Iran says the massacre on October 7 was a reprisal for the US killing of Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the IRGC.

According to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hamas carried out the attacks on October 7 in retaliation for the 2020 assassination of a senior Iranian general.

The American strike that killed Qasem Soleimani was referred to as a “terrorist act” by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in 2020.

The US’s killing of Soleimani was directly linked to Hamas’s October 7 killing spree, according to IRGC spokesman Ramazan Sharif, who also referred to it as “one of the revenges” Iran plans to carry out.

Iran’s top military commander, Soleimani, was killed by an American drone strike that was ordered by the late president Donald Trump.

Iran was incensed by the attack and demanded that the UN Security Council officially take action against the US and Israel, whom it also accused of being involved in the assassination attempt.

US officials subsequently acknowledged that the killing was premeditated as early as 2017, in response to Trump’s declaration that the pariah state would face sanctions if it withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal.

As commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force, Soleimani oversaw the country’s military operations in the Middle East prior to his passing.

He enlisted in the Revolutionary Guards in 1979 (the US has designated them as a foreign terrorist organization), and in 1998 he assumed command of the Quds Force.

The terror leader, who oversaw Iranian military and intelligence operations overseas, was regarded as one of the most powerful individuals in the nation.

Iran’s accusations were immediately refuted by Hamas, which maintained that the October 7 massacres were a reaction to the “occupation” and “dangers threatening the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” which is a significant Islamic site in Jerusalem.

The action is being taken concurrently with the IRGC’s discussion of the Monday killing of a senior Iranian general in Damascus, which they claim was orchestrated by Israel.

The IRGC promised that their response “will be decisive at the right time and place” and labeled the assassination a “act of terror.”

They continued, "We will react appropriately, either directly or indirectly through the resistance axis."
