Binance CEO Appears in Court for Alleged Tax Evasion Charges

The arraignment of Tigran Gambaryan, a senior official at Binance Holdings Limited, was postponed on April 4 due to the delayed delivery of charges to the accused individual.

The arraignment proceedings were also hindered because Gambaryan, the second defendant, had not been served with the charges by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla (in absentia) were brought before the court on allegations of tax evasion.

The counsel representing the second defendant informed the court that his client, scheduled for arraignment by the federal government, was unaware of the charges against him. The FIRS counsel acknowledged the difficulty in serving the charges to the second defendant, who had been in custody. Consequently, the FIRS counsel requested the court’s permission to serve the charges on the second defendant in court.

Although the counsel for the second defendant raised concerns about the federal government’s conduct regarding the service of the charges, no objections were made.

The court ordered that the defendant be served with the charges in court. The prosecution requested an adjournment to allow the defendant to review the charges and prepare for his plea.

As a result, the court adjourned the proceedings to April 8 and 19, 2024, for the arraignment.
