Awka Clash: Six Feared Dead in Anambra Rival Cult Group Encounter

At least six individuals were reportedly killed during a clash between rival cult groups in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Easter Sunday, March 31.

The incident unfolded in the Okpuno area, near Eke Awka Market, Obinagu, and across from Dike Park, all within the state capital, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Eyewitnesses from the affected areas disclosed that the victims were en route to various social gatherings, including a picnic, when armed assailants descended on the vicinity, unleashing a barrage of gunfire.

“The victims, who were on their way to different events, fell victim to the bullets fired by the armed assailants, who arrived in large numbers around noon on Sunday,” one source revealed.

The violence spilled over into adjacent areas, resulting in additional casualties at the hands of the suspected cultists.

Among those struck by gunfire was Nwofor, an employee of the Anambra State Judiciary, who was reportedly en route to an event.

A circulating video on social media depicts the aftermath, showing the bodies of those slain in the vicinity of Eke Awka.
