Attacks on Plateau communities on Christmas Eve resulted in 26 deaths and numerous wounded.

According to reports, bandits attacked several communities on Christmas Eve in the Plateau State local government areas of Barkin Ladi and Bokkos, killing about 26 people.

It was learned that while 15 people perished in an additional attack on villages in Barkin Ladi LGA, 11 people perished in Bokkos LGA.

It is also reported that during the attack in Barkin Ladi, a number of houses were destroyed.

According to information obtained by , both incidents began around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday.

It was learnt that yet to be identified gunmen came into the communities and started shooting sporadically.

A clergyman and five members of the same family were among the 11 people killed in Bokkos LGA.

Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, when contacted, said, “We are aware of incidents last night in some communities of Barkin Ladi and Bokkos LGAs.

“At the moment I cannot give you the casualty figure, because the DPOs in charge of those areas are working on it and will feed me with the necessary details when they are done, and I will get it across to journalists as soon as it is made available to me.

For the time being, everything is quiet. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations has been sent there by Commissioner of Police Julius Alawari, who is already there with the Commander in charge of Pankshin and Bokkos.

“The injured have been transported to the hospital and are receiving treatment, I’ve been informed as well.”
