Afenifere supports Tinubu’s anti-corruption campaign.
Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, proclaimed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to combating corruption, especially his determination to take on the threat within his cabinet.
The leading Yoruba group condemned the corruption scandal roiling the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and declared that a thorough investigation was necessary to uncover the purported financial irresponsibility occurring within the Ministry.
The group’s National Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu, urged Tinubu to expand the probe to include other ministries and the businesses that were paid exorbitant consulting fees in a statement.
In Afenifere’s opinion, if corruption is not addressed completely, the nation will face more difficulties.
“We are prepared to offer our assistance in the fight against corruption as a group firmly devoted to the advancement and welfare of our country,” Afenifere declared.
We firmly think that the only way to establish an atmosphere that fosters social justice, equal opportunity, and sustainable development for all Nigerians is to eradicate corruption.
Thus, we implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to reiterate his commitment to the development and progress, as well as that of his administration.
President Tinubu, who holds the dual titles of Commander-in-Chief and President of Nigeria, has an obligation to confront the serious problem of corruption that has afflicted our nation for far too long. Corruption continues to be a major roadblock to the advancement of our country and our shared goals.
It is essential that we take a direct approach to this problem and work to create a society in which corruption is not tolerated. We are convinced that attaining this objective requires taking a zero-tolerance stance against corruption.
We implore the President to launch a comprehensive investigation into the claims of corruption that have recently surfaced regarding the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. To guarantee accountability and transparency, every facet of the ministry’s financial transactions must be carefully examined.
The group also emphasized that “we demand a forensic audit of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and a thorough investigation into the financial transactions related to the ministry, as well as the companies involved in the excessively inflated verification fees of the consultancy.”
Afenifere expresses worries about the nearly 4 billion naira spent on beneficiary verification alone and wonders how much of the nation’s meager resources will remain to be distributed to the confirmed beneficiaries.
We really feel that no one should be spared from this investigation because, under President Tinubu’s direction, the government needs to lead by example and show that it is committed to upholding the fundamentals of good governance.
In addition, we stress how crucial it is to carry out this inquiry impartially and without bias in order to guarantee a just and fair procedure.
“President Tinubu has to uphold the confidence that the Nigerian people have placed in him by showcasing his commitment to accountability and transparency.”
