Yemi Alade, a celebrated singer from Nigeria, has stated that music is her passion rather than her job.

Alade revealed that she would not have chosen music as her career if she had to choose again years ago in an interview with the Tea With Tay podcast.

“It [music] was always a passion and I was hoping to see where it would take me,” the “Johnny” crooner stated. Do I feel as though I should have given up on everything else in order to devote all of my attention to music? No.

Alade continued, saying, “I didn’t want music to be a career, but I loved the idea of it.” It didn’t seem like a career to me. I had a lot of investment in this large hobby. but not a profession.

“I would not have chosen to become a musician if you had asked me eleven or twelve years ago what I wanted to do for a living. Even so, I would not do it. Even though I was very interested in music-related things, I just thought that I would make something out of this hobby and that I would carry on with my studies because that is what my parents wanted. If music wasn’t my thing, I’m positive I’ll find something else to do.

But she claimed that after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009, she signed with the Effyzzie Music Group and experienced success with her song “Johnny” in 2014.
