The appeal filed by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Athletics Integrity Unit contesting the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision against world-record hurdler Tobi Amusan will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on January 19.

On September 15, 2023, the AIU reported Amusan to CAS following a decision by its Disciplinary Tribunal that determined she had not broken antidoping regulations that stipulated a suspension for failing tests.

After Amusan missed three tests in a row, the body temporarily suspended her. However, an appeals panel reversed the suspension, allowing her to compete at the previous year’s world championships, where she placed sixth.

“The charge will be heard by the Disciplinary Tribunal and determined before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, January 19,” the AIU stated in a statement on X.

The hearing is not anticipated to be public and is anticipated to take place in person via video conference.

Amusan, meanwhile, has maintained that she is a clean athlete and will now need to demonstrate this at CAS.

When the AIU last sent her a notice of the charge, she wrote X, “I am a clean athlete and I am regularly maybe more than usual tested by the AIU.”

In July 2022, Amusan won the women’s 100-meter hurdles world record in the semi-final with a time of 12.12 seconds at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. With a time of 12.06 seconds in the final, she went on to win gold, but the strong tailwind prevented her time from going into the record books.

Amusan also took home gold in the 100-meter hurdles and 4×100-meter relay events from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in 2022.
