The veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has taken issue with Yul Edochie’s demand that his divorced wife, May Edochie, pay him a bride price.

According to DAILY POST, earlier on Wednesday, Yul requested a refund of the bride price he had paid to marry May Edochie, his first wife, in an Instagram post.

Rita Edochie, Yul’s aunt, responded to the news in a post on her official Facebook page, pointing out that May is not allowed to return a man’s bride price.

A woman does not have the right to reimburse a man for his bride price; instead, the man should move to the woman’s hometown with his family and request that the bride price be returned in the same manner that he paid it originally.

“Queen May has been requesting a separation. She pleaded with Yul, our son, to come get the bride price, but he refused, believing that queen May would eventually cave in to his desire for polygamy.

“You (Judy Austin) have been pressuring him to pay the bride price, but he didn’t start demanding it until the case was brought to court in late 2023.

Regretfully, the court now has complete custody of this matter, and nothing can be done until the court case is resolved. I reiterate: unless the court gives its approval and issues an order, no pride price may be returned. Thus, you must wait until whenever.
