A man has been detained on suspicion of killing his father, who was discovered dead from a stabbing on Boxing Day in Hackney.

After Michael John Murphy was attacked on December 26 at around three in the morning in east London’s Cranwood Street, police detained a 38-year-old man.

Despite receiving treatment on the spot, close to Old Street station, he passed away from his wounds.

According to the Metropolitan Police, Mr. Murphy was stabbed with a knife after about ten people got into a fight.

Four individuals—two men, ages 49 and 42, and two women, ages 35 and 44—were previously detained on suspicion of murder, but they were later released without being charged.

According to the force, the suspect and Mr. Murphy were acquainted and had been leading a “transient lifestyle” in the Shoreditch neighborhood.

A force spokesman provided an update on Monday, stating that the man had been found and taken into custody on suspicion of killing Mr. Murphy.

In the past, Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, in charge of Tower Hamlets and Hackney police, stated: “Our thoughts are with Michael’s family at this unbelievably difficult time.”

The death of Mr. Murphy occurs in the midst of several deadly stabbings that occurred on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day in the capital.

In a different incident that happened last night, thousands of people gathered on Primrose Hill to watch the New Year’s fireworks when 16-year-old Harry Pitman was fatally stabbed.

This afternoon, the Metropolitan Police made public a picture of the deceased and announced that another 16-year-old had been taken into custody on murderous suspicions. He is still being held.
