A husband has been accused of killing his wife in the Olota area of the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos over her failure to cook his meal last Thursday, Dec. 14.

The man had returned from work on the fateful day to discover his wife only cooked noodles, so he allegedly hit her on the crown of her head with what was believed to be a heavy object and then beat her to a pulp.

He then left his battered wife at home and went out.

A neighbour later called the husband to tell him that his wife was convulsing

Despite the husband and neighbors’ best efforts, the convulsing wife passed away en route to the hospital.

The suspect was taken into custody after the deceased victim’s brother contacted the station regarding the situation, a source in the Meiran Police Division told the publication.

“The deceased’s brother came to report the matter,” the source said. He said his sister was killed by the husband.

Nobody has, however, come forward to claim that her husband killed her. The husband has been taken into custody. The State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, has already taken over the case.

The police source stated that it was difficult to determine whether there was evidence that the husband killed the wife because they believed the deceased had been buried by the family.

“We cannot say that we stop investigation,” the source continued, “but there is no indication yet. We’ll let justice be served and the district unit carry out its obligations to determine whether or not the husband really did beat the woman to death as claimed.

“When we got there, none of the neighbours was willing to give us viable information concerning this. It happened on Thursday. Up to this morning, before we transferred the matter to Panti, nobody had come out to attest to the claim or the cause of death.

“The woman was not seen by us. The family had already gone to bury her in accordance with Islamic customs before they could report to us. Even if the claim was true, the deceased’s father went to the police station and said he had forgiven the son-in-law.

However, the deceased’s brother was adamant that his wife’s killer was the husband. He claimed to have struck his wife with an object before abandoning her in their apartment. He claimed that the wife’s neighbor had called to report that she was having convulsions. Before they could get her to the hospital, she passed away.
