After a “battle with bone marrow cancer,” actor James McCaffrey passes away at age 65.

At the age of 65, American actor James McCaffrey passed away. He was most known for lending his voice to the video game character Max Payne.

Surrounded by friends and family, he passed away on Sunday, December 17, following a courageous fight with bone marrow cancer.

McCaffrey went on to have a prosperous 35-year career in television and film as one of Dick Wolf’s protégés (Swift Justice), a representative told TMZ. He received training at the Actor’s Studio and never lost his passion for developing characters, but his good looks frequently drove him to leading man parts.

The actor Kevin Dillon posted a condolence message on Instagram, saying, “James McCaffrey, we were privileged to have known you.” I will miss you, my best friend.

In addition to portraying Max Payne in the three Remedy game series, McCaffrey also had parts in Alan Wake and Control. McCaffrey most recently provided the voice of Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2, a character whose physical attributes were inspired by Sam Lake from Remedy.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our beloved friend and collaborator James McCaffrey, the iconic voice of Max Payne and Alex Casey,” Remedy said in a post on X/Twitter. His extraordinary talent brought our characters to life and had a long-lasting effect on our neighborhood. We are praying for his family.”

McCaffrey leaves behind his daughter Tiernan and his spouse Rochelle Bostrom.
