The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has stated that Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State remains inaccessible as the army continues a cordon-and-search operation.

In an appearance on Arise TV on Wednesday, April 3, Musa explained that the operation is ongoing to ensure the safety of residents, as the army does not want civilians inadvertently caught in crossfire or mistaken for hostile elements.

Musa elaborated, saying, “When we conclude the cordon-and-search operations, which involve meticulously scouring every corner of the community, we aim to remove any weapons acquired through crude oil theft. During the disarmament exercise, many residents did not surrender their weapons. Additionally, the proximity to riverine areas and neighboring countries facilitated the smuggling of arms.”

He emphasized the necessity of thorough cleansing to eradicate any remaining weapons or explosives and ensure no individuals are hiding within the community.
